KotoVPN

Glossary

NordLynx

NordVPN’s implementation of WireGuard with an added double-NAT layer intended to avoid storing user IP addresses on the server.

Why it matters

It is the default protocol for one of the most widely used providers, so it is what most of that provider’s users are actually running.

What most explanations leave out

The WireGuard component is open source. The layer on top is not, and it is precisely the part that would need inspection to verify the IP-retention claim. That is why our rubric does not treat it as equivalent to plain WireGuard.

Related terms

WireGuard

A modern VPN protocol, around 4,000 lines of code, designed to be small enough to audit properly.

No-logs policy

A provider’s commitment not to record which sites you visit, when you connected, or what address you connected from.

Terms are defined here because they appear in our scoring rubric or in provider reviews, not to fill a glossary.
