Multi-hop
Also called: Double VPN, Secure Core
Routing traffic through two VPN servers in sequence, usually in different countries.
Why it matters
It means no single server sees both who you are and where you are going, which raises the cost of correlating traffic at one point in the network.
What most explanations leave out
The benefit assumes the two servers are meaningfully separated — different jurisdictions, different infrastructure providers. Two hops inside the same provider’s network in the same datacentre add latency and very little else. Expect to lose a substantial share of throughput either way.
