Which VPN has an actual Apple TV app?
Proton VPN and NordVPN both ship native tvOS applications, so no router configuration is needed. PureVPN and FastestVPN support Android TV but not Apple TV, which means covering an Apple TV with either one requires running the VPN on your router instead.
Apple only opened tvOS to VPN applications relatively recently, and provider support is still uneven. Before that, the only way to route an Apple TV through a VPN was at the router, which slows the whole household and cannot be toggled per device.
